Intro by King Musa
"Yo, what it is? You know what it is. It's your man, King Musa! Welcome to The CheatSheet, the podcast where we decode success for creators, professors, and business owners. I'm your host, King Musa, and today we’re diving into the world of success with none other than a man who's made waves in the entertainment industry: Brad Maule! Let’s get into it!"
Getting to Know Brad Maule
King Musa: "Brad, can you introduce yourself to our listeners and tell us about your journey in the entertainment world?"
Brad Maule: "Hey, thanks for having me! I’m Brad Maule. You might recognize me from General Hospital, where I spent nearly 20 years as a part of the show. But my journey has been a lot more than just one role—I’ve had the privilege to explore acting, directing, and even producing along the way. It’s been a crazy ride, and I’m grateful for every part of it."
Personal Background and Path to Acting
King Musa: "So, where did it all start? Where did you grow up, and what led you to pursue acting?"
Brad Maule: "I grew up in the Houston area. I’ve always been a creative person, and I think that stemmed from my family environment. My mom loved theater, and my dad was big into music. I always loved telling stories, and eventually, I decided to take that passion to the stage and pursue acting seriously in college. I knew early on that I wanted to be in the entertainment industry, but I didn’t know exactly what path it would take."
Personal Passions and Career Milestones
King Musa: "What are some of your personal passions outside of acting, and how have they shaped your career?"
Brad Maule: "I’ve always had a love for teaching. I get a lot of fulfillment from mentoring younger actors and giving back. Outside of that, I’m a huge fan of music—I love playing the guitar and just diving into new genres. As for my career, it’s been all about finding opportunities to grow. General Hospital was such a big part of my life, but I also made sure to branch out, whether it was in theater, film, or teaching. I’ve always believed in trying to diversify what I do."
Leadership and Overcoming Challenges
King Musa: "What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how did you push through them?"
Brad Maule: "One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning to balance the personal and professional sides of acting. When you’re working on a soap like General Hospital, you’re dedicating so much time and energy to the role, which can be tough on relationships and personal growth. Over time, I learned the importance of making space for myself outside of my work—whether it’s spending time with family, picking up new hobbies, or just stepping back from the grind to recharge."
King Musa: "That sounds like a huge lesson in balance. What’s your leadership style when it comes to mentoring others?"
Brad Maule: "I really focus on encouragement and giving people the freedom to explore their own voice. I’m big on listening, not just teaching. It’s about guiding people and helping them trust their instincts—because that's how real growth happens."
Navigating the Entertainment Industry
King Musa: "The entertainment industry has changed a lot over the years. What’s your take on the evolution of TV and film, especially with all the streaming services now?"
Brad Maule: "It’s a completely different landscape now. Streaming has opened up so many opportunities for creators, and it’s also changed how we as actors approach our work. There’s more freedom and flexibility with the types of projects you can take on, but with that comes the challenge of standing out in such a crowded space. The industry is definitely more diverse, but I think the heart of storytelling remains the same."
Advice and Key Lessons
King Musa: "What advice would you give to someone looking to break into acting or any part of the entertainment industry?"
Brad Maule: "The biggest piece of advice I have is to be patient with yourself and stay committed. The industry is tough, and rejection is a part of the process. But if you’re passionate, keep honing your craft, keep auditioning, and don’t take no for an answer. Also, don’t be afraid to take on different kinds of work—it’s all about the experience."
King Musa: "If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?"
Brad Maule: "I would tell myself to not be so hard on myself. I spent a lot of time worrying about whether I was on the right path. But looking back, everything I did led me exactly where I needed to be. Trust the journey and enjoy the ride."
