The Buzzsaw -Pi Kappa Lambda Faculty Showcase: A Night of Musical Brilliance

Yo, what it is! It’s your man,
King Musa, bringing you the latest on campus happenings with The Buzzsaw. Last night, the School of Music hosted the Pi Kappa Lambda Faculty Showcase, and let me tell you, it was a performance to remember! Featuring some of SFA’s most talented faculty, this recital was a celebration of artistry, collaboration, and creativity. Here’s a look at what went down.

A Diverse Showcase of Talent

The evening featured incredible performances, from classical pieces to soulful originals. Highlights included:

“Neo Rush” and “Ride On King Jesus”: Two stirring performances that captivated the audience.

“Finding a Friend”: Composed by former SFA student Wayne Ellis and performed by Andrea Niese on French horn.

Andrea shared her experience with the piece: “Wayne did such a magnificent job composing it. It was so creative, and it was fun working on this piece together. The performance reflected the seven stages of grief—imperfections and all, which made it truly special.”

Behind the Scenes: Faculty Perspectives

Dr. Jennifer Dalmas shared her thoughts on preparation for the showcase: “While we always wish we had more time to prepare, we were fairly familiar with the piece, and this was our first time performing it together. It was a wonderful experience collaborating on such a great composition.”

Scott Graff and Kimberly added: “There was laughter from the audience, and our kiss at the end was a crowd-pleaser. We’ve been married for 30 years, so it’s always fun to share that connection during performances.”

Memorable Dedications and Reflections

One standout performance was a piece dedicated to a beloved mentor who recently passed away. The performer shared: “My mentor taught me so much about jazz and improvisation. This piece was my way of channeling that energy and honoring her legacy.”

Audience and Faculty Reactions

Herbert Midley summed up the night perfectly: “This concert is always special because it brings together our amazing music family. The performances were beautiful, and the talent on display was inspiring.”

Looking Ahead

The School of Music has more concerts and recitals lined up, so if you missed this one, don’t worry—there’s plenty more to enjoy. Stay tuned to The Buzzsaw for updates on upcoming events, and don’t forget to support your fellow Lumberjacks by attending these incredible showcases. This is your man, King Musa, signing off. Stay creative, stay inspired, and keep celebrating the arts. Peace!
