Getting to Know Lee McDowell
King Musa: "Welcome, Pastor Lee! Can you share a brief overview of your background and your journey in ministry?"
Lee McDowell: "Thank you for having me! I became a Christian two weeks before my 35th birthday, and about a year later, God called me to ministry. I attended seminary and served as a children’s pastor, bus pastor, and minister of evangelism in Houston before pastoring five churches over 30 years. I stepped back from full-time ministry in 2005 to focus on writing books to share God’s truth with others."
The Inspiration Behind the Books
KM: "Your books have touched so many lives. Can you tell us about them and what inspired you to write?"
LM: "My first book, Seagulls Don’t Lie, was inspired by the truth of God’s word—just as seagulls dive for shrimp, God’s truths never fail. My later works, like God’s Words Bring Life and Christ’s Life in My Life, focus on helping readers experience God’s spiritual life through scripture. These books are filled with life verses and practical truths for living a joyful, God-centered life."
KM: "What’s your favorite part about sharing these truths?"
LM: "It’s seeing people get free. There’s nothing like watching someone discover God’s answers and find peace, joy, and freedom in Him."
Guiding Others Toward Freedom
KM: "How do you help people overcome spiritual challenges and find freedom?"
LM: "Many people are ‘sidetracked in the wilderness,’ knowing they’re saved but struggling with life’s challenges. My ministry focuses on helping them rediscover fellowship with God. It’s about teaching them to ask questions, believe in His truth, and trust Him for answers. Whether through one-on-one counseling, Bible studies, or my books, I share how God’s presence can overcome any adversity."
Staying Inspired and Motivated
KM: "What motivates you to keep sharing God’s word and wisdom?"
LM: "I know God has the answers to every question and challenge. Spending time in solitude with Him keeps me inspired. Whether I’m writing, teaching, or talking with someone one-on-one, I see it as a privilege to share His truths and watch them transform lives."
Reaching the Next Generation
KM: "How can younger people benefit from your ministry, and what’s your advice to them?"
LM: "The younger generation needs to connect with older mentors who can share wisdom and guidance. I encourage them to seek out those relationships and ask God to provide people who can help them grow. It’s also vital to dive into God’s word and explore what it means to live as a Christian, not just do Christian things."
